The men's basketball team traveled to Lorain County today to play the Commodores in OCCAC action. The Lakers used two dominating halves to coast to the 140-77 victory. The Lakers got started when Ben Hamilton grabbed a rebound and fed Devin Belle for a layup to start the game. Following a Commodore miss, Kaleb Wanamaker would feed Belle for another layup. Both teams would then miss shots before Belle grabbed an offensive rebound and finished with a dunk and a 6-0 Laker lead less than 3 minutes into the game. Following a Lorain layup, Belle would feed Kaleb Wanamaker for a layup and an 8-2 Laker lead. After a Commodore miss, Brandon Moore would score a layup to give Lakeland a 10-2 lead. Following a Lorain basket, Eric Cook would score a layup on an assist from Amarion Glenn. Lorain would take advantage of a couple of Lakeland misses to make the score 12-8 before Keenan Hughes hit a 3-pointer for a 15-8 lead with 12:40 to play in the half. Following a Lorain basket, Ben Hamilton would score a layup on an assist from Brandon Moore. After a Lorain 3-pointer, Belle would connect on a jump shot to push the Laker lead back to 6 at 19-13. Lakeland would hit 1-2 free throws before Lorain connected on a 3-pointer. Devin Belle answered back with a 3-pointer of his own and a 23-16 Laker lead. Brandon Moore would then steal the ball and score a layup for the Lakers. After Lorain hit 1-2 free throws, Belle connected on another jump shot to give the Lakers a 27-17 lead with 10 minutes to play in the half. From there, the Lakers would play solid defense to force some turnovers and missed shots by the Commodores as the Lakers built a 62-34 lead going into the break. The Lakers would keep up the pressure in the second half as they coasted to the victory.
Lakeland had 5 players finish in double digits and shot over 57% as a team from the field. Devin Belle led all scorers with 50 points on 22-31 shooting from the field. Belle also had 7 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 steals, and 3 blocks. Brandon Moore finished with 22 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4 steals while Kaleb Wanamaker picked up 19 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists, and 4 steals. Eric Cook finished with 18 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 steals while Amarion Glenn recorded 10 points and 6 steals. David McClain picked up 8 points and 3 assists while Ben Hamilton chipped in 5 points and 8 rebounds for the Lakers.
