The Lakeland men's basketball team traveled to Edison State today to face the Chargers in OCCAC action and came away with an 81-71 victory. With the win, the Lakers improved to 6-1 in conference play. In the first half, the Lakers were shaking off the bus legs with an uncharacteristic half as the scoring was based on 3 players primarily (Amarion Glenn 7 points, Devin Belle 6 points, and Aaron Ward 6 points). The usually much more balanced Lakers went into the break trailing 35-29. In the second half, Lakeland came out and played with much more defensive intensity which created problems for the Chargers offensively while also sparking the Lakers. Down the stretch, Devin Belle made a pair of baskets around a Kaleb Wanamaker basket before Brandon Moore and Adam Williams closed the game out on the line shooting a perfect 4-4 combined.

A strong second half would trigger the Lakers having 4 players finish with double figures. Devin Belle led the way with 23 points while Kaleb Wanamaker finished with 17 points on 5 second half 3's to help spark Lakeland. Adam Williams and Brandon Moore both finished with 10 points while Amarion Glenn recorded 9 points. Aaron Ward and Ben Hamilton both chipped in 6 points in the Lakers win.

T's Talk: "We started off a little slow. It's always a challenge to travel that far and get off the bus and play right away. Though it wasn't a great start, we did enough to battle and keep us in the game. In the second half, we were able to turn the pressure up and play better defense. The defensive effort is what got us playing more to our capabilities. Good job by everyone for continuing to battle throughout the game. Credit Edison as they are a good team that works hard."

Next Up: On Wednesday (1/22), the Lakers will travel to Jamestown CC to play the Jayhawks in non-league action. This game is the makeup from the December 3 snowout. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
