Second Half Surge Lifts Jayhawks Over Lakers

Kirtland, Ohio – The Lakeland Community College men's soccer team was in action today as they hosted Muskegon Community College.  The Lakers were defeated 2-0, and with the loss the Lakers have a record of 2-1 on the season. 

The first half of the match was a scoreless defensive struggle, in which both teams had opportunities to score.  The Lakers were out shot by the Jayhawks 5-2 in the first half with the Angel Alvarez (Las Vegas, Nevada / Rancho High School) playing well in net for the Lakers as he made four first half saves to keep the match deadlocked at 0-0.

In the second half Muskegon opened the scoring when Noah Hendricks scored off of an assist by Jubenal Rodriguez.  15 minutes later the Jayhawks tacked on to their lead when Miquel Flores found the back of the net off of an assist by Franklin Rodriquez, to make the score, 2-0 in favor of Muskegon.  The Lakers mustered a couple of late chances but were unable to score and fell, 2-0.

The Lakers were led by their goalie Alvarez, as he made eight total saves, as he faced 14 shots, 10 of which were on goal. 

Lakeland will be back in action tomorrow (August 28th) at 1 P.M. as they play host to Lake Michigan.
