Big First Half Leads Lakers Past Lorain

KIRTLAND, Ohio – The Lakeland Community College soccer team was in action yesterday (Sept. 21) as they were victorious over Lorain County Community College, 4-1.

The Lakers struck quickly as Jesus Ledsema (Painesville, Ohio / Riverside) opened the scoring in the second minute when he scored a goal off an assist by Jose Mares (Thompson. Ohio / Harvey). After 30 scoreless minutes of play in the middle the first half the Lakers added to their 1-0 advantage when Ivan Matkovic (Mentor, Ohio / Lake Catholic) found the back of the net off an assist by Cole Clausen (Conneaut, Ohio / Conneaut High School). Lakeland entered the intermission with a 2-0 lead.

 The Lakers continued to dominate the match as they scored their third straight goal when Clausen scored off a rebound from a shot by Brendon Mullen (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor). Lorain cut into the Lakeland lead with a goal with just over 12 minutes remaining in the match. The Lakers regained their three goal advantage when Kallai Krivoy (Geneva, Ohio / Mentor Christian Academy) scored his first collegiate goal off an assist by Khadim Mbaye (Dakar, Senegal / Sacre Coeur). Lakeland held on to win the game 4-1.

The Lakers will be back in action this weekend as they to take on Ancilla on Saturday (Sept. 24) and Jackson on Sunday (Sept. 25) with both games starting at 1 p.m.
