Muskegon scores in final minutes to beat Lakeland, 2-1

MUSKEGON, Mich. – Lakeland men's soccer struck first but it was Muskegon Community College evening the score in the first half and then coming up with a game-winner in the final minutes for a 2-1 victory Sunday afternoon.

With the loss, the Lakers fall to 1-1 overall and in Region XII play.

Williams Batres (Cleveland) scored the lone goal for Lakeland and that goal was assisted by Ivan Miljak (Willowick).

Lakeland struck first in the opening minute when Batres took a pass from Miljak and buried it into the net for a 1-0 lead. That lead disappeared after a Muskegon goal in the 12th minute to knot the game at 1-1.

Muskegon was able to score just before the end of regulation in the 89th minute to steal away the 2-1 victory.

Muskegon outshot Lakeland 30 to 5 and Jacob Pereira Granato (Toronto, Ontario) was able to make 14 saves in the loss.

Lakeland will next be in action in the Lakeland Invitational Tournament against Walsh University JV at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 8.
