KIRTLAND, Ohio – Lakeland men's soccer gave up two penalty kicks but escaped unharmed but a free kick in the 65th minute turned into a game-winning goal for Walsh University JV in a 1-0 win to open the Lakeland Invitational Soccer Tournament.
With the loss, the Lakers now fall to 1-2 overall and 1-1 in Region XII.
Lakeland could only muster three shots on goal and those shots came from Ugochukwu MacAustin Nneji (Lagos, Nigeria), Williams Batres (Cleveland) and Uri-Malcolm Young (Toronto, Canada). The Lakers had five shots in the first half and four in the second half.
After whiffing on two penalty kicks, Walsh cashed in on an free kick from just outside the box to score the game's only goal.
Lakeland will finish up the Lakeland Invitational with a match on Sunday, Sept. 9 at 1 p.m.
