KIRTLAND, Ohio – Lakeland men's soccer got back into the win column for the first time since the season-opening game after beating Cincinnati State Technical & CC 4-2 Saturday afternoon.
With the win, Lakeland evens out its overall record at 2-2-2 while its Region XII record stays at 1-1-1.
Kobie Gooding-Meade (Toronto, Ontario) completed the hat trick with three goals with his final goal coming off of a penalty kick in the 57th minute. Uri-Malcolm Young (Toronto, Ontario) scored the other goal for the Lakers in the win. Josue Gomez-Villegas (Perry) assisted two of the four goals while Cole Clausen (Conneaut) added an assist.
It didn't take long for Lakeland to break through as Gooding-Meade used his head to score the first goal. Gooding-Meade used a headed pass from Gomez-Villegas to head in his own goal in the ninth minute for a 1-0 lead.
Gooding-Meade was back at it again in the 32nd minute when he took a pass forward by Clausen and buried the ball into the net for a 2-0 lead. Cincinnati State did score a goal just before halftime to get within 2-1 at the half.
Young helped to break the game open in the 50th minute when he raced to a crossed ball by Gomez-Villegas that was misplayed by the keeper. Young took advantage for the goal and a 3-1 lead.
Gooding-Meade capped his impressive day with a converted penalty kick to give the Lakers a 4-1 lead in the 57th minute. Cincinnati State did score in the 73rd minute to get within two goas but that would be as close as they would get as Lakeland held on for the win.
Lakeland will look to complete a 2-0 weekend when it hosts Harford Community College for a match Sunday, Sept. 16 at 3 p.m.
