Lorain County scores late to tie Lakeland, 1-1

KIRTLAND, Ohio – Lakeland men's soccer held a 1-0 lead late into the game but Lorain County Community College was able to score in the 86th minute to force a 1-1 tie Wednesday afternoon.

With the tie, Lakeland's overall record moves to 5-9-4 and its Region XII record stays at 2-5-2.

Ugochukwu MacAustin Nneji (Lagos, Nigeria) scored the lone goal for the Lakers with an assist from Justin Bailey (Fort Myers, Fla.).

Following a scoreless first half, Nneji was able to break through in the 66th minute after taking a long pass from Bailey for a goal to take a 1-0 lead.

Lakeland had to play the majority of the final 15 minutes of the game a man down because of a yellow card and Lorain County took advantage with a goal in the 86th minute to knot the game at 1-1 that would end up being the final score.

Lakeland will wrap up the regular season with a Region XII match against Jackson College on Saturday, Oct. 20 at 1 p.m. Jackson is currently third in Region XII with a 5-2 record in conference.
