Lakers drop 2-1 decision to Ancilla

The Lakeland men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to Ancilla College today at Lost Nation Sports Park.  With the loss, the Lakers now stand at 9-3 overall and 7-3 in the conference. The shorthanded Lakers never really got started in this match from an offensive standpoint. In the first half, though they carried the play, there were very few quality shots on goal. The score was deadlocked at zero at the half.  With the rain continuing to fall, the field became quite slick. Ancilla took advantage first by scoring about 17 minutes into the first half on some nifty ball handling in the Lakers box.  Mikkel Quist knotted the score at 1 five minutes later on a nice pass from Matt Dobson.  From there the game was very sloppy by both teams as the play was adversely affected by both the rain and strong winds.  With 15 minutes remaining in regulation, Ancilla College netted the game winner after a defensive breakdown.

Kettani Quotes: "It was a difficult day to play in terms of weather for both teams. In the end, Ancilla got it down and so we tip our hats to them. One of our main goals was to get out of this game with no injuries and no cards and we were able to do that. We are looking forward to getting some players back as we get ready to prepare for postseason."

Next Up: The Lakers final regular season game is scheduled for next Wednesday, 10/23, at Mercyhurst NE. Game time is 4 pm. After that, they will prepare for Regional play November 2-3 in Muskegon, MI.
