Lakers fall to Tribunes

The Lakeland men's soccer team kicked off their season by traveling to Monroe Community College to face the NJCAA's 20th ranked team in Division I. The game was dominated by the Tribunes as they outshot the Lakers 38-4 and controlled much of the possession time. The Tribunes also led the Lakers in corners by a 5-1 margin. Monroe jumped out to an early lead and never looked back as they led 5-0 gong into the break. The highlight for the Lakers was the play of goalkeeper, Till Oppermann. Oppermann finished with 14 saves in goal and saved a penalty kick.

Mayer Mentions: "Obviously a tough game for us as Monroe controlled the play throughout.  They are a nationally ranked team in Division I and I think this is a game that we learned a lot about ourselves. Our effort level, level of play in the system, and teamwork need to - and will - improve. We'll get back at it in practice and work to improve in some areas that will help us move forward."

Next Up: The Lakers will travel to Lorain County Community College next Tuesday (8/29) to play the Commodores. The match is scheduled to start at 3:00 pm.
