Men's soccer sinks Commodores

The men's soccer team traveled to Lorain County today to face the Commodores in a non-league match and came away with a convincing 4-0 victory. The Lakers controlled all facets of the game as they outshot the Commodores 36-4. Lakeland also out cornered Lorain 5-0. The Lakers first goal was scored at about the 10 minute mark when Byron Perez converted a long pass from Diego Garcia. It was Perez's first collegiate goal and Garcia's first assist. The Lakers went up 2-0 when Alex Orozco took control of a corner kick outside of the box and scored on a pretty shot. Orozco's first collegiate goal sent the Lakers into the break with a 2-0 lead. Fifteen minutes into the second half, Omar Inga would collect a rebound and score giving the Lakers a 3-0 lead. The Lakers final goal consisted of combination passes between Juan Lara and Bryon Perez. Lara collected his first collegiate assist on Perez's second goal of the game. Till Oppermann picked up the shutout by recording 3 saves.

Player of the Game: Byron Perez - Perez commented, "We played a good game against a quality team. I am really exited for my first two goals in college! We controlled the game from start to finish, and everyone was thrilled to keep a clean sheet. The defense was solid, and our teamwork really showed on the field. Now, we have to stay focused and work hard for our next game on Tuesday, where we hope to get our first home win."

Ty's Talk: "Our team did a good job today maintaining their composure in what became a very physical affair. I was pleased with our overall effort. We will take a little rest and take care of some injuries and come back next week ready for the conference opener."

Next Up: On Tuesday (9/10), the Lakers will host the Owens Express in an OCCAC contest. The match is scheduled to kickoff at 1:00pm on Laker Field.
