The Lakeland men's soccer team traveled to Terra State today to face off against the Titans in OCCAC action. The Lakers struck early and then controlled the game with solid passing and ball control as they took a 3-0 decision. Five minutes into the game, Omar Inga was taken down from behind inside the penalty area. Inga was rewarded with a penalty kick and wasted no time putting the Lakers ahead as he calmly drilled the ball into the lower left hand corner for a 1-0 lead. The Lakers would play solid defense throughout the rest of the half as the Titans consistently tried to beat the Lakers with thru passes. Lakeland's defense deftly closed the passing lanes or when the rare pass did get through, netminder Till Oppermann was there to pick up the pass. The Lakers would add another goal 18 minutes into the first half when Carmen Ningler-Farone threaded a nice pass from the left side to a streaking Byron Perez. Perez would take the pass and quickly beat the Terra State defensive line before ripping a shot past the Titan netminder for a 2-0 Laker lead. The Lakers would maintain that lead into the break.
The two teams would continue a back and forth battle throughout the second half. The Lakers subbed in Diego Garcia in the net to try and close out the game. Lakeland continued to win the possession game as they connected on several passes with patience. Terra continued to try to connect on a thru pass and finally did with about 10 minutes to play. The Terra player took a nice shot, but Garcia was there to quickly tip the shot over the goal. With 4 minutes to play, the Lakers got their final goal when Ruach Deng made a nice cross to Jomar Bravo. Bravo outworked the Titan defense and quickly tucked the ball in behind the Titan keeper to close out the Laker win.
