Lakers softball sweeps Commodores
The Lakers softball team traveled to Victory Park on Sunday to face-off against the Lorain County Community College Commodores in a doubleheader. The Lakers came out swinging the bats and rolled to a 13-3 and 9-1 sweep of the Commodores. Both games went the minimum 5 innings. The Lakers overall record is now 3-4-1 and  3-2-1 in the league. Casey McHugh and Bailey Cravens paced the attack as they each went 4-4 and collected 2 doubles. Cravens also added a home run for the Lakers. Tatianna Matuz went 2-4 with a double and a homerun while picking up 5 RBI's. Mia Cipriano went 2-4 and collected a pair of doubles while Gina Grandini picked up 2 hits and an RBI in the win. Georgia Briggs also homered for the Lakers. In total, the Lakers collected 17 hits in game one. Cravens earned the win on the mound for the Lakers as she pitched all 5 innings and allowed 3 runs (0 earned), 3 hits, while striking out 5 batters.
 
Game 2 was keyed by a 6-run 3rd inning. With two outs, the Lakers' Lindsey Fergus, Tatianna Matuz, and Bailey Cravens hit 3 straight doubles. Mia Cipriano then stepped to the plate and hit a two run homer; her 2nd of the season. Casey McHugh, Matuz, and Cipriano each picked up 2 hits in the game. Matuz hit her 5th homer of the year in the 5th inning to cap the scoring for the Lakers. Megan Wallace earned the complete game victory allowing 4 hits and 1 earned run while striking out 7 in 5 innings.
 
Morganti Mentions: "We hit the ball really well today. Ten extra base hits in game one and seven more in game 2. We got good pitching in both games from Bailey and Megan. It was a good overall day - we need to keep playing."
