The Lakeland softball team played host to the Owens Community College Express on a frigid day today at Laker Field. Unfortunately for the Lakers, their winning streak was snapped as they dropped a doubleheader by the scores of 16-2 and 13-5. With the losses, Lakeland's record falls to 12-7-1 (12-5-1). The Lakers managed 6 hits in game one. Mia Ciprano led the way going 3-3 and knocking in both runs. Cipriano hit a solo shot in the 4th inning and doubled home Lindsey Fergus in the 7th inning. Casey McHugh, Tatianna Matuz, and Gina Grandini picked up the other hits for the Lakers. Megan Wallace started on the mound and took the loss for the Lakers.

Game 2 started a better for the Lakers as Tatianna Matuz crushed a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning. The Express answered back with two in the top of the second and then never looked back as they took advantage of a few Lakeland errors and some timely hitting of their own.  Lakeland mounted a rally in the bottom of the 5th scoring 4 runs; but it was not enough. Megan Wallace started the inning with a walk. Georgia Briggs followed with a double before Wallace would score on a passed ball. Samantha Toke would walk and later Briggs scored on a wild pitch. Matuz later hit an RBI double scoring Toke. The Lakers would finish their scoring when Matuz came home on a towering fly ball by Mia Cipriano that was not caught. Bailey Cravens started and took the loss on the rubber for the Lakers.

Next Up: The Lakers will travel to Edison State on Saturday (4/30) to take on the Chargers. The games are scheduled to begin at 1:00 pm.
