The Lakeland softball team played the Macomb Monarchs in the 1st game of the Region XII softball playoffs and came out on the short end of a 3-1 decision. Bailey Cravens took the hard-luck loss as she pitched a complete game and allowed 8 hits and 3 runs (0 earned) while striking out 2 batters. The Monarchs took advantage of an error in the top of the 5th inning to take a 1-0 lead. Lakeland bounced back to even the score in the home half of the 5th inning. Megan Wallace doubled to center field with one out to get the Lakers started.  Georgia Biggs followed with a single up the middle that put the runners at the corners. Samantha Toke pinch ran for Biggs and promptly stole second base. Casey McHugh then hit an RBI fielder's choice to second allowing Wallace to score. The Monarchs took advantage of another error in the 6th inning that enabled two more runs to score and gave Macomb a 3-1 lead. Lakeland put a runner on with less than 2 outs in both the 6th and 7th innings, but were unable to deliver the key hit. Megan Wallace went 3-3 with a double and scored the Lakers only run while Mia Cipriano collected 2 singles (2 for 3) in the defeat.

Next Up:  The Lakers will play the Schoolcraft Ocelots in a 5pm game today (5/12).
