The Lakeland softball team's season came to an end on Thursday as they fell in game two of the NJCAA Region XII tournament by a score of 11-7 to the Schoolcraft Ocelots. The Lakers finished their season with an overall record of 17-10-1 (17-6-1). Schoolcraft took advantage of Lakeland's defensive miscues to build a 6-0 lead going into the bottom of the 2nd inning. The Lakers answered with 6 runs in the home half to tie the score. The Lakers used some timely hits combined with Schoolcraft errors to get back into the game. Mia Cipriano got the inning started with a walk. Bailey Cravens followed with a hit to 3rd that could not be handled which put runners on 1st and 2nd base. Madison Tatka would then hit an RBI single to score Cipriano as Cravens advanced to 3rd on the throw. Gina Grandini was hit by a pitch to load the bases. With one out, Georgia Biggs was hit by a pitch to score Cravens. After Grandini and Biggs moved up a base on a wild pitch, Casey McHugh ripped a triple to left-center field to score them both. After a pitching change, Lindsey Fergus hit a fielder's choice scoring McHugh. Unfortunately for the Lakers, Schoolcraft continued to add runs as they picked up a run in the 3rd, 2 more in the 4th, and 1 more in the 5th inning. Lakeland added another run in the bottom of the 6th inning on a Megan Wallace home run to center field.
Megan Wallace started on the mound and took the loss pitching 3 innings allowing 7 runs (2 earned) on 5 hits. Georgia Biggs relieved and allowed 4 runs in 4 innings. Tatianna Matuz and Madison Tatka each collected 2 hits for the Lakers.
