The Lakeland softball team finally got a break in the weather and played host to the Hocking College Hawks today in OCCAC action.The Lakers fell to the Hawks 11-2 in game 1 before game 2 was halted due to darkness in the bottom of the 6th inning with the Lakers leading 8-5. In game 1, the Hawks jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning before Carmen Alvarez led off the home half with a homerun to make the score 3-1. The Lakers would get closer in the 2nd inning as they pushed across another run to make the score 3-2. The run was scored by Leah Richter when she led the inning off with a single. Richter advanced to second on a fielder's choice from Emerson Hren. Richter would later score on an RBI-single from Alvarez. Unfortunately for the Lakers, that's as close as they would get as the Hawks pulled away for the win.
Carmen Alvarez led the way with 2 hits (HR) and 2 RBI's. Sydney Plotts and Leah Richter each collected 2 hits while Peyton Trick added a hit for the Lakers. Richter took the complete game loss on the mound.
Game 2 was called in the bottom of the 6th inning with the Lakers leading 8-5. Carmen Alvarez got the Lakers going with a leadoff single before advancing to 3rd on a ball Peyton Trick ripped that was unable to be handled by the Hawks centerfielder. Alvarez would later score on a passed ball. After stealing 2nd base, Trick would later score on an RBI-single from Abby Haydu. Lakeland would tack on two more runs in the bottom of the 2nd inning to take a 4-0 lead. Lauryn Hawkins started the Lakers rally with a 1-out single. Hawkins would advance to second on a passed ball before scoring on an RBI-single from Alvarez. Alvarez would then steal 2nd base and score on a Trick RBI-single. Lakeland would make the score 5-0 in the bottom of the 4th inning by adding another run. Carmen Alvarez would hit a leadoff double before later scoring on a Sydney Plotts hit ball that the Hawks misplayed. The Hawks would later tie the score as they scored 2 runs in the top of the 5th inning and then another 3 more in the top of the 6th inning. Lakeland wasted no time in answering back in the bottom of the 6th inning. Hawkins hit a leadoff double and Alvarez followed with a 2-run blast to regain the Lakers lead. Plotts then doubled before Morgan Gross scored her with an RBI-single. The game was then called due to darkness with Leah Richter coming to bat.
Peyton Trick was the pitcher of record at the time the game was called.
