The Lady Lakers basketball team's season came to an end today as they fell to the Edison State Chargers 80-76 in the finals of District play. The Lakers finished the season with a 25-3 record.  The game was a back and forth affair the whole evening as both teams took turns having leads throughout the first half. In general, the game was close throughout as Lakeland led by 1 at both the end of the 1st quarter and at the half 36-35. However, the Chargers won the third quarter by 5 points and that proved to be the difference as they each scored the same amount in the last quarter.

The game came down to the wire as the score was tied at 72 with 2:55 to play. After a 3 pointer and couple of freee throws, the Chargers built the lead that Lakeland just could not overcome. The Lakers were trying to battle through this time after briefly losing their point guard to an injury and then two starters fouled out. With that, Lakeland just could not pull the game out.

Lakeland was led by Armani Jackson's 28 points and 18 rebounds and Gianna Pegoraro's 25 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals. Makayla Cooper added 9 points in the defeat. In total, 7 different Lakers scored on the game.

Gardy's Gab: "There is no reason to hang our heads, We had a really good year and just came up short. Tip your cap to Edison, they had just a little bit more depth and shot the 3 a little better today. We have a lot to be excited about, we are losing a couple of very good sophomores, but also have some very good freshman returning. I'm very proud of our girls and the effort they gave all season."
