The Lady Lakers basketball team kicked off the season with a convincing 80-22 victory over the Eric Community College Kats. It was the first game in almost 1.5 years for the Lakers as they did not play last season due to COVID.  Lakeland picked up right where they left off in coming away with the victory. The Lakers jumped out to an early 1st quarter lead - scoring the first 12 points - and never looked back. Lakeland scored 28 points in the 3rd quarter as they pressed the Kats for about 5 minutes to put the game well out of reach. Lakeland had 4 players score in double digits as freshman Madison Fueger (Normandy HS) led the way with 26 points. Sophomore Destiny Khay (Normandy HS) followed with 15 points while Shar'Da Williamson (Liberty HS) added 13 points and Shanya Rhodes (Cleveland Heights HS) chippd in 10 points.

Gardy's Gab: "It was good to have a chance to play a game finally. It was really nice for those that stuck with the program through last year. This was our first time playing and so you could tell we were a little jittery in the 1st half. It was nice to see Madison (Fueger) come in and play so well as a freshman. She played with a lot of energy and the team fed off that. As a team, we were very unselfish which was great to see. We have Niagara coming up next Wednesday and that will be a real challenge for us as they are always a real strong team."

Next up: The Lady Lakers will next play host to the Niagara County Community College Thunderwolves on Wednesday, November 10. Tip off is scheduled for 5:30pm in Laker gym.
