The Lady Lakers played host to Owens Community College and were edged out in the 66-69 loss. With the loss, the Lakers fall to 5-4 on the season and 1-1 in the conference. Lakeland came out to a commanding 17-7 lead over the Express at the end of the 1st quarter. They were led by Shar'Da Williamson's 8 points and Alesia Quinn's 5 points.  Madison Fueger led the way defensively with a couple of quality blocked shots.  The Lakers momentum faded as Owens came screaming back in the 2nd quarter, outscoring the Lakers 21-11, to end the half tied at 28. To start the 3rd, Lakeland caught fire, scoring 8 unanswered points - 6 from Williamson. The 4th quarter came down to the wire in thrilling sequences. Both teams held up on defense to start the 4th. With 6:22 left to go, a technical foul committed by the Lakers allowed Owens to tie up the game, and from there, the Lakers surrendered control. As time winded down, the Lakers fought hard, but were unable to come back. Shar'Da Williamson led the team in scoring finishing with 26 points. Elisha Quinn followed with 17 points and Madison Fueger secured 8 points.

Players Perspective:

Shar'Da Williamson: "We took advantage of their man-to-man defense and kept up the scoring. But we need to attack on defense. I feel like that was one of our best played games this season. We just need to execute."

Madison Fueger: "We came out with great energy to start the game, but that energy just waived in the end. Got to stop the foul trouble. But we are definitely looking forward to our next game with Owens. At the end of the day, it was a very winnable game."

Gardy's Gab: "Offense and defense lapsed. We couldn't stop Owens as they made key three's. We had great energy, but we need to execute better. We have to correct the improper play as we look to scout out Terra State."

Next Up: The Lakers will play Wednesday, 1/19, at Terra State against the Titans. Tip off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
