Lady Lakers top Commodores

The Lakeland women's basketball team traveled to Lorain County Community College to take on the Commodores on Tuesday evening. The game was moved up a day due to the impending weather forecast. The early date agreed with the Lakers as they came away with a 75-43 victory to improve their record to 8-6 (4-3). The game started slowly for Lakeland as Lorain came out with a lot of quick energy and intensity; taking a quick 10-4 lead. Lakeland was able to gather themselves though and battled back to take a 16-14 lead at the end of the first quarter. Lakeland continued to gain momentum in the 2nd quarter and led 34-23 going into the break. As has been a common theme lately, Lakeland came out and dominated the 3rd quarter blitzing the Commodores 22-9 sealing the game and allowing the Lakers to coast to victory.

Shar'Da Williamson led all scorers with 20 points and added 9 rebounds. Elisha Quinn had a solid game overall scoring 16 points and adding 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4 steals. Madison Fueger dominated the boards finishing with a career high 22 rebounds while adding 12 points, 4 steals, and 4 blocked shots. Delaney Sullivan also had a solid night contributed 8 points and 8 rebounds while Brandy Smith finished with 10 points in the affair. Hailey Davis also chipped in 7 points in the victory.

Gardy's Gab: "Lorain is a gritty team that works hard. Fortunately, we were able to match their intensity after a bit of a slow start. I was please that we continued to get quality play coming out of the break and we finished the opportunity to close the game out. We haven't had a mid-week victory in a while now so it was good to get this one. I was pleased with the overall effort. Shar'Da and Elisha really stepped up offensively and Maddy really rebounded at a high level. I also thought Brandy played well defensively. Good overall team effort. We still have some things to work on so we will get back at it tomorrow to get ready for Saturday."

Next Up:  On Saturday (2/5), the Lakers are scheduled to host the Hocking Community College Hawks. The game will be an hour earlier than normal with a noon tip.
