The Lakeland women's basketball team traveled to Toledo on Saturday to take on the Owens Community College Express and came up on the short end of a hard-fought 84-72 decision. With the loss, the Lakers record now stands at 9-8 (5-5). In their recent stretch, Lakeland has started slowly early in games. With the determination to change that, the Lakers came out battling and led 21-17 at the end of the first quarter. Elisha Quinn helped the Lakers by scoring 13 of her game-high 29 points in the opening period. Unfortunately for Lakeland, they could not sustain the momentum in the second period as the Express outscored them 29-17 during the quarter.

Lately, Lakeland has come out of the break with a lot of energy and effort. The Lakers were able to maintain their scoring pace, but unfortunately, were unable to keep the Express off the scoreboard as they dropped the period 21-20. From there, Lakeland was unable to close the gap as they suffered the defeat.

Shar'Da Williamson finished the game with 17 points for the Lakers while Madison Fueger added 12 points. Arion Brown chipped in 7 points for the Lakers.

Gardy's Gab: "I was pleased with our overall effort. We had a difficult 2nd quarter and that was really the difference in the game. We have got to have short memories with the quick turn-arounds this week. I really like the effort from our players and expect that we'll come out ready to play Monday."

Next Up: In a make-up from a 2/5 postponement, the Lakers will face the Hocking Hawks on Monday night. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 pm.
