Perry & Jackson earn postseason accolades

OCCAC Awards | Region XII Awards

The Lakeland Community College women's basketball team's impressive 2023-24 season was highlighted by several major individual honors at the conference and regional levels. Sophomore guard Lauren Perry was named the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) Player of the Year, Playmaker of the Year and earned first team All-OCCAC recognition, while her teammate Trinity Jackson also secured a spot on the first team.

Perry's impressive season stats of 17.6 points, 6.1 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 4.3 steals per game helped propel the Lakers to a share of the OCCAC championship and an NJCAA Region XII tournament appearance. Her stellar play was also acknowledged with a selection to the All-Region XII team.

Joining Perry on the All-OCCAC and All-Region teams was freshman guard Trinity Jackson. Jackson emerged as one of the top first-year players in the conference, averaging 15.5 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 2.8 assists in 21 games.

The All-OCCAC and All-Region selections highlight the talent of the 2023-24 Lakeland women's basketball squad. The Lakers compiled a 13-9 overall record and 9-3 conference mark in conference play, under head coach, Ornette Gardenhire.

This year’s appearance in the Region XII tournament also marked the Lakers’ sixth consecutive season advancing to the postseason, with the only exception being the 2020-21 season, which the Lakers did not compete in due to COVID-19.
