The Lakeland women's basketball team playd host to the Edison State Chargers today in OCCAC action. The Lakers "fabulous five' have been the only team to beat the conference leading Chargers this year and they were looking to do it again. In the first quarter, both teams battled as they traded baskets throughout. At the end of he period, the Chargers held a 20-17 lead. Lakeland was paced by Jai'Lynne Hitt-Swartz as she scored 7 points in the quarter. Point-guard Monetta Hilory also had a strong quarter recording 5 points. In the second quarter, Edison State would take advantage of a couple early Laker turnovers to take an 11 point lead at 30-19, but again the Lakers would answer back. In the quarter, the Lakers were paced by Trinity Jackson who scored 8 points while Jai'Lynne Hitt-Swartz added another 5 points. It was not enough though as the Charger went into the break with 38-30 lead. In the 3rd quarter, Lakeland committed early turnovers again allowing Edison State to grow their lead. This time, despite a strong effort, Lakeland was unable to overcome the deficit as they fell to the Chargers.
