Women’s soccer gets thrilling victory

The Lakeland women's soccer team traveled to Ancilla College and came away with a thrilling 3-2 victory. Things started off quickly for Ancilla as they jumped to an early 1-0 lead 1 minute into the game on a goal off a though ball. After that the combination play really picked up for the Lakers and Michell Molina knotted the score with just under 12 minutes to play in the half on an assist from Denver Falz. Ten minutes into the second half, Naree Lovanh gave the Lakers the 2-1 as she scored on a through pass from Karah Johnston.  With 12 minutes to play in the game, Lakeland was whistled for a foul in the box. Ancilla knotted the score at 2 as they converted on the penalty shot. Makenzy Nolan netted the game winner with 3:45 to play as she hit a strong open shot from the corner of the 18 that beat the goalie into the side net.  Coach Steve Sivik commented, "We started off giving up a quick goal early, but fought back. We were down a few starters this game, however, our next players up played well. My players find a way to win. I'm proud of their effort today." The Lakers outshot the Chargers 17-5.

 

The Lakers travel to league foe Jackson College tomorrow to take on the Jets at 1:00pm.
