The Lakeland women's soccer team bounced back from a loss yesterday with a thrilling 2-1 victory over the Lake Michigan Red Hawks. With the victory, the Lakers improve to 8-1 overall and 4-1 in conference play. Lakeland got off to a slow start in this contest as the game was played in inclement weather. The Red Hawks took a 1-0 lead into the intermission after scoring off a corner kick. Lakeland settled down and was able to make some adjustments at halftime which helped them carry much of the play throughout the 2nd half. Kyley Molea got the Lakers on the board early int the second half scoring on a header. Lakeland continued to carry the play and had several scoring opportunities. With a little over 22 minutes to play, Lakeland was awarded a penalty kick after a foul in the box. Molea calmly stepped forward and scored her second of the night that gave the Lakers the lead they would not relinquish. In total, Lakeland outshot Lake Michigan 22-8 while also holding a slim 3-2 advantage on corners. Erica Wayts recorded 5 saves for the victory.

 

This is the first season series sweep of league contests in program history.

Next Up: The remaining league games for the Lakers will all be home contests. The next match will be against league foe Jackson Community College on Sunday, 10/6, at 11 am. The game is scheduled to be played at Lost Nation Sports Park in Willoughby.
