Lakers women's soccer earns win over Chargers
The Lady Laker's soccer team improved to 9-2 and 6-2 with a solid 2-1 victory over the Ancilla Chargers at Lost Nation Sports today. The game was largely played in the midfield, but the Lakers controlled throughout. The Lakers outshot the Chargers 7-3 and led in corners 3-1. This was a game where the Lakers defense didn't allow many scoring opportunities and then they broke it open for the team. Sophomore Elena Logan, who helped lead the team with her strong defensive play, scored a goal that caught the Chargers goalie out of the net. Her strike from just beyond mid-field gave Lakeland a 1-0 lead going into the half.

Lakeland struck quickly in the second half as Michell Molina scored just under 4 minutes in to give the Lakers a 2-0 lead.  Lakeland then controlled the possession game as they limited Ancilla to just one shot in the second half.  The Chargers were able to close the gap though as they scored on a penalty kick in the 72nd minute. Erica Wayts earned the victory in net.

Lakeland currently sits tied for second in the conference with the Jackson Jets.

Sivik's Sentiments: "We played well today. We moved the ball well at times. Even though we are still working through some injuries, we are doing some nice things on the field. Elena's goal was the spark we needed in the game. Michell is usually in the right place at the right time, and she had a quality goal as well. We have positioned ourselves well for Regionals, and I'm looking forward to our first Regional appearance as a program."

Next up: On Wednesday, the Lakers will travel to non-league opponent Lorain County CC for a 4pm match. Lakeland will then return to Lost Nation on Sunday, 10/20, for a league match against conference leaders Muskegon CC.
