Lakeland women's soccer advances to Region finals
The Lakeland women's soccer team beat Jackson Community College 3-2 on Saturday to advance to the Region Finals. The victory secured the second year program's first post-season opportunity and was the first postseason victory in Lakeland women's soccer history! It was not an easy game though as the weather had a large impact on the play. Despite that, Lakeland struck first when sophomore Brooke Resse scored at the 36:18 mark. The goal was a brilliant header off of a Denver Falz corner. Less than 10 minutes later, Falz scored the Lakers second goal when finishing of a set piece. Jackson would answer less than a minute later to cut the lead in half. Denver Falz was then credited with her second goal of the game scoring with just under a minute to play in the half. Leading 3-1 at the half, Lakeland knew they would be in for a battle during the second half. They were right and Jackson once again cut the lead to 1 with just under 11 minutes to play. The Lakers banded together though and held off Jackson as they earned the solid victory. Lakeland owned a 5-4 advantage in shots on goal and Erica Wayts earned the victory in net with 3 saves.
