Women's soccer falls in Regional Finals
In year two of the women's soccer program history, the Lakeland women's soccer team made it to the Regional finals. That in itself is a tremendous accomplishment. Unfortunately for the Lakers, they were upended by Muskegon Community College 3-1 in Grand Haven, MI. Muskegon carried a lot of the play as they outshot the Lakers 29-10 and had the advantage in corners 12-2. In the first half, Lakeland maintained it's composure and after trailing 1-0, the Lakers tied it up on a goal by Brooke Resse from Denver Falz to send the game into intermission tied at one. The Jayhawks picked up the pace in the second half as they outshot the Lakers 16-2. They eventually broke through with the game winner 15 minutes into the second half and then tallied a tack on goal about 15 minutes later. The Jayhawk's Haley Ruiter scored all three goals in getting the hat trick. Erica Wayts finished with 13 saves on the day. Lakeland finishes the season wit an overall record of 11-5 under 2nd year head coach Steve Sivik.

Sivik's Sentiments: "Muskegon played an excellent game. We had some good opportunities, but only capitalized on the one. We played hard, but came up a bit short today. For our second year of the program, I'm really pleased with our progression. Our sophomores - Brooke, Erica, Lanie, Jalyn, Autumn, Lora, Siba, Emily, and Bri - are an amazing group. They picked up where we left off last year and advanced to the Region XII Championship game together. We have a strong group of freshman returning, so I'm excited what our next step will be. I'm really proud of my players. They did an excellent job this year."
