The Lakeland Lakers women’s soccer team traveled to Erie, PA to take on the Saints of Mercyhurst NE. After defeating Mercyhurst NE at home last week, the Lakers got off to a slow start and fell behind 1-0 within the first minute of the game. The Lakers fought back and started to take control of the game. After trailing 1-0 at the half, freshman Kyley Molea (Coventry HS) took advantage of the Lakers better play as she netted two unassisted goals to lead the Lakers to a 2-1 victory. Sophomore Erica Wayts (Riverside HS) also was a solid contributor for Lakeland as she recorded 10 saves in net. Coach Steve Sivik commented, “We started off very slow today, but regrouped at halftime. I was pleased with our 2nd half. We had many opportunities on target, a few of them hitting post. We learned some extremely valuable lessons today. I was proud on how our players responded.”

The Lady Lakers 2-0, head to Battle Creek, MI on Saturday to face their first league opponent of the season, Kellogg CC. Game time is at 2 p.m.
