The Lakeland women's soccer team played host to the Lake Michigan Redhawks today and suffered a 6-0 loss on Laker Field. The game was a tale of two halves and a slew of injuries for the Lakers. The game started as a fairly even match as both teams battled for possession and offensive opportunities. The Redhawks would flood the offensive end at times while the Lakers relied on ball possession as they did an excellent job passing the ball to keep LMC at bay. The Redhawks broke through with their first goal 17 minutes into the half on a nice shot that hit the top corner of the goal. Still, the Lakers continued to battle and maintained their controlled possesssion game. Unfortunately for the Lakers, already down a couple of starters due to injuries, they had two more players go down and that was a deciding factor in the game.  The Lakers continued to battle for the half switching to a more defensive posture and went into the break trailing 1-0. In the second half, that strategy could not be maintained as the Redhawks were able to capitilize on the depleted Lakers and earn the win.

The Lakers had several players give a great effort throughout the match. Lillyan Agostine was credited with 19 saves for the Lakers. Carli Salatino was commended for her stalwart defensive play while Kassie Emmett had a strong game at midfield. Layla Von Berndt continues to improve on defense and brings a nice physical presence to the team. Batoul Khaleefah made her return from the injured list and had a nice game for the Lakers while Micaha Marbury and Georgia Edwards did good work for Lakeland at the forward position today. Salatino, Von Berndt, and Emmett were named Lakers players of the game. Honorable mention goes to Agostine, and Khaleefah, and Lila Malkamaki.

Mallon Mentions: "We were really battling for much of the first half until additional injuries took us out of our game plan. The team continues to give their best effort despite some difficult circumstances at times. I'm proud of their effort."

Next Up: The Lakers will have a quick turn around as they play host to the Muskegon Jayhawks tomorrow (10/1). The match is scheduled to kickoff at 1:00 pm.
