The Lakeland women's soccer team played host to the Lake Michigan Red Hawks today at Laker Field and dropped a hard-fought 4-3 decision. The game started off poorly for the Lakers as they surrendered two goals within the first 12 minutes of the game. However, the Lakers would battle back as Josalyn Abrams scored her first goal of the season. Abrams goal was a blast from 25 yard out into the top left corner of the goal at the 29 minute mark of the first half. The two teams would continue to battle for the rest of the half and Lakeland went into the break trailing 2-1.
The Red Hawks scored another goal within the first 2 minutes of the second half as they took advantage of Laker mistakes to go up 3-1. Lakeland continued to battle and closed the gap to 3-2 on a goal from Lily Schiemann at the 35:19 mark. On the goal, the Lakers crossed the ball to the front of the net before Schiemann took control of a scramble in front and beat the Red Hawk keeper. Three minutes later, Lakeland tied the game as Ryley Woodworth scored for the Lakers. On the play, Woodworth would dribble into the box beating the Red Hawks defense before ripping a shot into the bottom right corner of the goal. Both teams would have opportunities to take the lead over the next several minutes. Unfortunately for the Lakers, the Red Hawks would score the eventual game winner with under 18 minutes to play.
