Lakers Sweep Final Day of McBride Tournament

KIRTLAND, Ohio – The Lakeland Community College volleyball team swept the second day of competition at the Shannon McBride Memorial Tournament.  The Lakers defeated Lansing Community College in 5 sets, and also defeated Mercyhurst Northeast in four sets.

The first match of the day was back and forth as the Lakers and Stars alternated winning the sets.  The Lakers won the first, third, and fifth sets, 25-22, 25-23, and 16-14 respectively.  Lakeland was led by Kayla Zarbock (Willoughby, Ohio / South) as she had a team high nine kills, as well as a team leading three solo blocks.  Olivia Mancisio (Willoughby, Ohio / Kirtland) had a game high six solo blocks.  The defense for the Lakers was led by Brittany O'Hara (Sandusky, Ohio / Perkins) as she had a team leading 19 digs in the match.  Nicolette Waite (Willoughby Hills, Ohio / South) also chipped in with 16 digs for Lakeland. 

The Lakers dominated the second match from the start as they won the first set 25-10, before dropping the second set. Lakeland responded in convincing fashion as they took the third set, 25-10, and the final frame, 25-18.  The Lakers were led by Zarbock as she had 20 kills, four solo blocks, and three aces.  In addition to Zarbock, Cary Morin (Burton, Ohio / Newbury) had 11 kills and five digs in the match.  Waite led the Lakeland defense as she had a game 17 digs.

The Lakers will return to the court Wednesday (Sept. 14th) as they travel to take on Cuyahoga Community College at 6 P.M.
