Lakers Fall to Challengers in Five Sets

KIRTLAND, Ohio – The Lakeland Community College women's volleyball team was in action yesterday as they were defeated by Cuyahoga Community College. With the loss the Lakers are now 5-5 on the season.

Cuyahoga grabbed the lead after the first set, as they outpaced the Lakers 25-11. The Lakers responded in the second and third sets to take a 2-1 advantage, winning the sets, 27-25, and 25-16 respectively. Lakeland was unable to finish off Cuyahoga as the Challengers claimed the final two sets and won the match 3-2. 

Offensively the Lakers were led by Cary Morin (Burton, Ohio / Newbury) as she had a team high 12 kills. Morin also tallied five digs, a block, and an assist. Kayla Zarbock (Willoughby, Ohio / South) also pitched in on the offensive end as she had 11 kills and three blocks. 

Defensively the Lakers were led by Nicolette Waite (Willoughby, Ohio / South) as she had a team high 17 digs. In addition to Waite, Brittany O'Hara (Sandusky, Ohio / Perkins) also tallied double-digit digs with 10, as well as tallying a block.

Lakeland will return home Saturday (Sept.17) when they host Edison at 11 a.m.
