Lakeland’s Iesha Niciu notches second consecutive OCCAC player of the week honor

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – The Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) Players of the Week for women's volleyball (Oct. 23-29) are Iesha Niciu (D-II) of Lakeland Community College and Columbus State Community College's Allyse Rutter (D-III).

Niciu was responsible for a whopping 58 points (8.29/set) in leading the Lakers to a pair of conference victories and extending their current winning streak to six straight matches. She blasted 42 kills at a .547 attacking rate on the offensive while throwing up 15 blocks defensively. Niciu opened the weekend with a 23-kill, 10-dig double-double at Edison before coming back the next day with 19 more kills and five rejections in sweeping Clark State.

Niciu finished the regular season as Lakeland's leader in kills (305) and blocks (207). Niciu also leads the Lakers with a .355 hitting percentage.

Lakeland wrapped up the regular season on Oct. 28 with a sweep over Clark State Community College and finished second in the OCCAC with a 12-4 record.

Lakeland will next play in the NJCAA District E Tournament hosted by St. Clair County Community College in Port Huron, Mich. on Thursday, Nov. 2 at 4 p.m. against Oakland Community College.
