Laker Volleyball drops pair

The Lakeland volleyball team dropped a pair of league contests to Edison State and Clark State over the weekend. Friday night's match against Edison left them with a 3-0 defeat where the Lakers struggled to get anything going consistently. They lost the three games 25-19, 25-19, and 25-13. In Saturday's matchup against Clark State, a lack of consistency was again the key as the they dropped a 3-2 heartbreaker 24-26, 25-21, 25-22, 22-25, and 10-15.  The overall effort of play was much better on Saturday after a tough opening loss.  The Lakers carried the play in games 2 and 3 and had an 8 point lead in game 4 before faltering down the stretch.  Throughout both days there were times when Lakeland played excellent defense and worked together extremely well. Unfortunately, they tended to follow that up with unforced areas and in the end it cost them the matches. There were some players who played well over the weekend though as Brook Burrington played excellent defense and made several nice passes, Derria Grant continued to improve in all facets, Jessie Ceboll played strong on the front line consistently blocking and hitting quality swings, while Asiana Settles and Char Bourns made strong contributions. Sarah Miozzi played well throughout contributing defensively, with strong serves and good passing while Stephanie Chait had flashes of strong play at the net.

The Lakers hit the road next week as they travel to Cuyahoga CC East on Wednesday, Hocking College on Friday, and then are at Columbus State on Saturday. The Lakers next home game is on Sept. 25 when they host Cuyahoga CC at 6pm.
