Lakers volleyball sweeps Hawks

All season long, consistency has been the one trait Lakeland has not mastered. On Friday night, that changed as the Lakers gave a consistent effort and beat the Hocking College Hawks 3-0 (25-9, 25-16, 25-13). With the win, Lakeland improved to 5-16 and 3-10 in conference play. The last time these two teams faced off, Lakeland won 3-1, but in much closer games. Tonight's games provided a consistent all-around team effort where every player contributed. In each game, Lakeland got out to early strong starts. Every time Hocking tried to battle back, Lakeland had the answer.   Char Bourns, Jessie Ceboll, Derria Grant, and Asiana Settles controlled the net play while Abby Carlson and Brook Burrington played strong defense. Sarah Miozzi pitched in while contributed in both facets and Abigail Tuttle and Janice Robinson both played strong up front.

Miozzi Mentions: "it was good to see the ladies play a very solid, consistent match.  I hope this is a sign of how we can finish the season.  We have a big challenge in front of us tomorrow (Sinclair CC) and so I hope we can come out with a lot of energy and a strong consistent effort again. We did a lot of things well tonight and it was really good to see both Brook Burrington and Abby Carlson play good defense.  It's good to see improvement."

Next up: The Lakers play host to Sinclair Community College tomorrow at 11am in Laker gym Admission is free. Lakeland will then be on the road next weekend before returning home for their final match of the year on Tuesday, 10/28. It is Sophomore Night and the game starts at 6:30 pm.
