Lakers drop match to Golden Eagles

The Lakers women's volleyball team played host the the Kent State Tuscarawas Golden Eagles and dropped a 3-1 decision (25-23, 23-25, 15-25, 19-25). The loss puts the Lakers at 1-6 (1-2). The first game was a seesaw affair that saw no lead bigger than 3 points. With the Lakers down 22-19, the team came together and made several great passes, sets, and kills to regain the lead at 23-22. After the Golden Eagles tied it at 23, Adrienne DiPierro (Harvey HS) served the Lakers out to get the win. The Lakers did not fare as well in the second match. Again, it was a back and forth affair with neither team able to take control. Again, it came down to the wire, but this time it was the Golden Eagles serving out the victory. The third game started close and at one point was knotted at 10. However from there, the Golden Eagles slowly pulled away before taking a commanding lead and closing out the game.  The final game had the Golden Eagles jumping out to an 8-3 lead before Mia Eckliffe (Mentor HS) served her team back into an 8-7 score. The two teams then traded points until Kent State Tusc slowly expanded its lead to 3. After trading points and the Lakers behind 22-19, the Golden Eagles closed out the match.

Miozzi Mentions: "The team played hard early. The first two matches saw some really good efforts by several players. After losing that second match though, we dropped our heads a bit in game 3 and were unable to recover. We need to stay positive and keep working hard.  This was difficult after being off for a few days and missing matches due to COVID. We will keep working hard though and continue to improve.  We just need to stay together and keep supporting each other. We have a week now to prepare for our next match."

Next up: The Lakers are off until next Wednesday (9/22) when they host the Lorain County Commodores in a non-league matchup.  The match is scheduled for a 6:00pm start.
