The Lakers volleyball team traveled to Kent State Tuscarawas on Saturday and played a tri-match with Lorain County Community College (NL) and host Kent State-Tusc. In the opening match, the Lakers played the Commodores and were beaten 3-0 (13-25, 14-25, and 12-25). The Lakers came into their own more in the second match against the Golden Eagles. Despite a better effort, the Lakers still fell 3-2 (25-10, 22-25, 19-25, 25-20, 15-7). In this match, the Lakers started early and rolled to the victory in game 1. Game 2 and 3 were both back and forth affairs with the Lakers falling in both. However, Lakeland showed their resolve and battled to even it at 2 with a convincing 4th game victory. Unfortunately, they were unable to maintain the momentum in the final game.

Against the Golden Eagles, Lakeland was led by Arion Brown's (East Technical HS) 17 kills, Anna Lewis' (Mentor HS) 12 kills, and Avalon Gollin's (Mentor HS) 12 digs.

Miozzi Mentions: "They played as a team and complimented each other both when they did well and when they made mistakes. We really showed improvement - especially in the second match again KSU-Tusc. The last time we played them we lost 3-1; today we had our chances. I was proud of how the girls on the court came together as a team and didn't let anything distract them. Hopefully, we continue this growth and have a strong finish to the end of our season."

Next up: The Lady Lakers will play host to the Commodores of Lorain County on Wednesday (10/13) at 6pm.
