Volleyball falls to Commodores

The Lakeland womens volleyball team traveled to Lorain County tonight to play the Commodores in OCCAC action. Unfortunately for the Lakers, they struggled to get their game going and fell 3-0 (9-25, 17-25, 14-25). The Lakers record now stands at 2-3 (0-1). In game 1, the Lakers had difficulty getting started as they committed several unforced errors. The teams battled back and forth in game two before the Lakers finally fell to the Commodores. From there, the Lakers were unable to muster a sustained attack as they dropped game 3.

The player of the match for the Lakers was Erica Merth as she led the team with great play at the net converting many kills and blocks as well as serving well throughout the match.

Statistics were not available at the time of this release.

Watts' Word: "Tonight's match was difficult. We didn't begin the warm-up with good energy which unfortunately translated into the match. We had good intentions, but we just couldn't come together. The lesson learned is that there is value in playing as a whole unit. We'll get back to practice and team build while focusing on the fundamentals. We are going to be a team to reckon with - we just need to rub out the kinks."

Next Up: The Lakers continue to be road warriors as they travel to Owens Community College to play in their invitational on Friday and Saturday (9/1-9/2). Lakeland will face off against the Jackson Jets on Friday at 3:15 pm.
