Lakers fall to Cuyahoga

The Lakers baseball team traveled to Cuyahoga Community College on Sunday to face the Triceratops. Unfortunately for the Lakers, they dropped both ends of the doubleheader by the scores of 8-5 and 5-3. Both games had a similar feel as the Lakers held leads late before making a costly mistake that opened the door for Tri-C. In game 1, Dalton Vance got things going with a leadoff double. He would later score on a 1-out RBI single from Rafael Nakandakari Alves. Alves would then score on an RBI single from Kyle Zaluski. Later in the inning, Seth Cervello would hit an RBI single to score Zaluski to open a 3-0 Laker lead after a half innng of play. Tri-C would answer by scoring 2 runs without a hit as they took advantage of 3 walks and a HBP to score runs on a sac fly and a fielder's choice. Tri-C would knot the score at 3 in the bottom of the 2nd inning before the Lakers regained the lead in the top of the 3rd inning. Zaluski would hit a lead-off single and come around to score an unearned run. The Lakers would extend their lead to 5-3 in the 4th inning as Cody Hjduk would reach by being hit by a pitch and then race all the way around to score on an Alves double. Tri-C would narrow the lead to 5-4 in the bottom of the 5th as they scored a run on a passed ball. Tri-C then won the game in the bottom of the 7th as they took advantage of a Lakeland error before hitting a walk off home run. Kyle Zaluski went 3-3 with 2 runs scored and an RBI. Rafael Nakandakari Alves and Dalton Vance both finished the game going 2-4 (double, single) with a run scored. Alves also added 2 RBI's. Cody Hejduk, Seth Cervello, Austin Heeter, and Cody Crawford each went 1-3 in the loss. Seena Amani took the loss on the mound pitching 6.1 innings scattering 6 hits while allowing 8 runs (7 earned), Amani also struck out 6 batters.

In game 2, the Lakers again got off to a good start in the top of the 1st inning. Cody Hejduk drew a walk before Rafael Nakandakari Alves singled. Kyle Zaluski then ripped a 2-RBI triple to give the Lakers the early 2-0 lead. That score would remain until the top of the 4th inning when the Lakers tacked on another run. Seth Cervello hit a 1-out double and then scored on an RBI single from Cody Crawford. Tri-C would scratch a run across in the bottom of the 4th and 5th innings to make the score 3-2 in favor of the Lakers. The 4th inning run was paced by a walk while the run in the 5th saw the Triceratops take advantage of a Laker error. Tri-C would then take the lead for good scoring 3 runs in the bottom of the 6th inning. A pair of walks paired with two hits led to the runs. Kyle Zaluski and Rafael Nakandakari Alves both went 2-3 in the night cap. Zaluski also recorded 2-RBI's. Cody Crawford went 1-3 with an RBI while Seth Cervello finished the game going 1-2. Abe Bayus took the tough luck loss tossing 5.1 innngs and allowing just 3 hits while giving up 5 runs (4 earned) and striking out 4 batters. Frank Sloan relieved Bayus in the 6th inning and pitched .2 innings allowing 1 hit.

Next Up: On Friday, the Lakers travel to Crusher's Stadium to play Lorain County Community College.  The doubleheader is slated to start at 1:00 pm.
