Baseball drops pair to Chargers

Tha Lakers baseball team traveled to Edison State today to face the Chargers in a doubleheader. The Lakers fell in both ends by the scores of 10-5 and 8-6. Though the Lakers battled in both games, defensive miscues played a big part of both games. Michael Beckman started game 1 and took the loss as he pitched 3 iniings and allowed 7 tuns (5 earned). Riley Wallace relieved and pitched 3 innings allowing 1 hit and 3 runs (2 earned). Lakeland fell behind 7-0 after 3 innings before starting to battle back. In the top of the 4th inning, Dalton Vance singled and was followed by a Cody Hejduk walk. Rafael Nakandakari Alves then singled to load the bases. Kyle Zaluski then stepped to the plate and delivered a 2-RBI single. Caden Gopalakrishna then hit a sac fly scoring Alves. Zaluski would score the 4th run of the inning to make the score 7-4 on a sac fly from Cody Crawford. Unfortunately for the Lakers, the Chargers added 3 more runs over the next few innings to give Edison a 10-4 lead going into the top of the 7th inning. The Lakers managed to score 1 run in the 7th inning. Crawford and Stephen Osowski both walked before Vance hit an RBI single. Dalton Vance went 2-4 in the game with an RBI. Kyle Zaluski, Cody Crawford, Joey Elly, and Rafael Nakandakari Alves each had a hit in the defeat.

Game 2 again saw the Chargers jump to an early 3-0 lead as they took advantage of a Lakers error in the bottom of the 1st inning to plate 3 runs. The Lakers fought back to make it 3-2 in the top of the 3rd inning. Joey Elly hit a leadoff single. Rafael Nakandakari Alves would later hit a 2-out single before Kyle Zaluski delivered a 2-RBI single. The Chargers would take advantage of another defensive mistake and score four runs in the bottom of the 3rd to make the score 7-2. Lakeland scored two runs in the top of the 5th inning to draw the Lakers closer at 7-4. The two runs scored when Cody Hejduk hit a leadoff double and then Rafael Nakandakari Alves blasted a 2-run home run. The Chargers answered with a run in the bottom of the 5th before the Lakers tacked two more runs on in the top of the 6th inning. Joey Elly had a 1-out walk before Dalton Vance singled. Hejduk then hit a fielder's choice that got Elly out at 3rd base. Alves then singled to load the bases before Kyle Zaluski ripped a 2-RBI single to make the score 8-6. Unfortunately for the Lakers, they were unable to push any more runs across as they lost game 2. Zachary Sullivan took the hard-luck loss pitching 6 innings and allowing 8 runs (4 earned) on 6 hits while striking out 4 batters. Rafael Nakandakari Alves finished game 2 going 4-4 with a home run and two RBI's. Kyle Zaluski went 3-4 with 4 RBI's. Stephen Osowski went 2-4 for the Lakers. Joey Elly, Caden Gopalakrishna, Cody Hejduk, and Dalton Vance each picked up a hit in the Laker loss.
