Baseball splits with Titans

The Lakeland baseball team and the Terra State Titans played a doubleheader today at Laker Field. The teams would split as the Lakers won game 1 by a score of 3-2 before dropping the nightcap 15-5. For Lakeland, Lenny Feckner was the key as he dominated on the mound pitching a complete game and allowing 5 hits, 2 runs (0 earned), while striking out 5 batters. The Titans jumped out to an early 1-0 lead before the Lakers tied it up in the bottom of the 3rd inning. Cody Hejduk got things going with a 1 out walk. Rafael Nakandakari Alves then hit a ball that was mishandled by the Titan shorstop before Caden Gopalakrishna walked to load the bases. Dalton Vance was then hit by a pitch to push across the Lakers first run. The Titans would take the lead in the top of the 4th inning before the Lakers knotted the score in the bottom of the 5th inning. Rafael Nakandakari Alves got the Lakers going with a single. Kyle Zaluski followed with a single as Alves advanced to third base. Gopalakrishna would pick up the RBI as Alves scored on a sacrifice. Feckner would shut the Titans down in the top of the 6th inning putting the Lakers in a position to take their first lead of the game in the home half. Stephen Osowski took advantage of an error by the Titans first baseman and was able to get to third base before Cody Crawford hit a sac fly to push across the eventual game winning run. Rafael Nakandakari Alves finished the game going 2-4 while Cody Crawford went 1-3(2B) with an RBI. Cody Hejduk (2B) and Kyle Zaluski each picked up hits in the Lakers win.

The Lakers fell behind early in game 2 and were never really able to get going. Cody Crawford finished the game going 2-3. Caden Gopalakrishna, Andhris MartinezRafael Nakandakari Alves, and Kyle Zaluski each had a hit and an RBI in the loss. Cody Crawford pitched and took the loss on the mound.

Next Up: The Lakers will play host to the Bryant & Stratton Bobcats tomorrow in OCCAC action at Laker Field. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
