Lakers baseball drops 2 of 3 vs Eagles

The Lakeland baseball team had a long day of baseball today as they preceded a doubleheader with completing a previously scheduled game all against the Clark State Eagles at Laker Field. In the completion game, the Lakers were technically the visitors and held a 6-1 lead entering the top of the 6th inning. The Lakers wasted no time and exploded for 7 runs to take a commanding 13-1 lead. In the top of the 6th inning, Cody Hejduk was hit by a pitch. Rafael Nakandakari Alves followed with a single and then Kyle Zaluski knocked in Hejduk with an RBI double. Caden Gopalakrishna followed with a walk before Joey Elly worked an RBI walk. Riley Wallace then hit an RBI single before Cody Crawford followed with a RBI double. Stephen Osowski then picked up an RBI on a fielder's choice before Cody Hejduk had an RBI single. Seena Amani was credited with the win as he tossed 5 innings and allowed 1 run on 8 hits. Michael Beckman pitched a shutout 6th inning today. Kyle Zaluski finished the game going 3-4 with 2 RBI's while Cody Crawford picked up 2 hits and 2 RBI's. Seth Cervello and Caden Gopalakrishna each picked up 2 hits and an RBI. Rafael Nakandakari Alves finished the game with 2 hits while Stephen Osowski and Riley Wallace each added 1 hit and 1 RBI in the win. 

In game 2, the Lakers fell into a 5-0 hole before battling back and losing by a final of 5-4. The Eagles took advantage of walks in both the 1st and 3rd innings to take a 3-0 lead before tacking on 2 more in the top of the 4th inning. In the bottom of the 4th inning, the Lakers scored a run as Rafael Nakandakari Alves was hit by a pitch and advanced to second on a passed ball. He would later score on an RBI single from Caden Gopalakrishna. The score would remain 5-1 until the bottom of the 7th inning when the Lakers made one last surge. With 2 outs, Cody Crawford walked. Cody Hejduk was then hit by a pitch before Rafael Nakandakari Alves was walked to load the bases. Kyle Zaluski then came through with a 2-run single to cut the lead to 5-3. Alves would later score on a wild pitch and Zaluski would advance all the way to 3rd base. Gopalakrishna was then intentionally walked putting the winning run on base. Unfortunately for the Lakers, it would end there as the next batter flew out to right to end the game. Caden Gopalakrishna went 2-3 with an RBI and Kyle Zaluski finished 1-4 with 2 RBI's. Cody Hejduk also picked up a hit in the Laker loss. Michael Beckman took the tough luck loss as he pitched 3 innings allowing 3 hits and 3 runs (2 earned). Lenny Feckner relieved and pitched 4 innings allowing 2 runs (1 earned) on 4 hits while striking out 4 batters.

The final game saw the Lakers allow unearned runs in spotting the Eagles a 3-0 lead early. In the bottom of the 4th inning, the Lakers picked up their first run. Rafael Nakandakari Alves got things going with a 1-out single. Kyle Zaluski followed with a double before Alves scored on a sac fly from Caden Gopalakrishna. In the bottom of the 6th inning, the Lakers would scratch across another run to make the score 3-2. In the 6th, Cody Crawford and Alves would work walks before Kyle Zaluski hit a fielders choice that was combined with an Eagle error allowing Hejduk to score.  The Eagles would then score 3 runs in the top of the 7th inning to extend their lead to 6-2. Again, the Lakers would not go down easily as Dalton Vance and Stephen Osowski hit back-to-back singles. Later in the inning, Vance would score on a Cody Crawford RBI single. Osowski would end up scoring on a passed ball. With runners on base, the Lakers were unable to come up with the final hit as they fell in the contest. Abe Bayus took the tough luck loss as he pitched 6.1 innings and allowed 6 runs (3 earned) on 4 hits. Stephen Osowski relieved and allowed a hit in .2 innings. Caden Gopalakrishna had 2 hits and an RBI for the Lakers while Cody CrawfordRafael Nakandakari Alves, Stephen Osowski, and Dalton Vance each picked up a hit in the loss.

Next Up: The Lakers are scheduled to host the Hocking College Hawks on Saturday (4/29) at Laker Field. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
