Lakers baseball sweeps Hawks

The Lakeland baseball team traveled to Hocking College today to face the Hawks and swept them by the scores of 8-6 and 19-5. In game 1, the Lakers rode a big 6-run 2nd inning to earn the win. Trainiling 1-0, Caden Gopalakrishna got things going with a walk. Dalton Vance and Stephen Osowski followed with singles to load the bases. With two outs, Cody Hejduk then stepped to the plate and blasted a grand slam to give the Lakers a 4-1 lead. Rafael Nakandakari Alves followed with a single before Kyle Zaluski ripped an RBI-triple. Zaluski would later score on a catchers error. The Hawks would inch their way back into the game scoring single runs in the 2nd, 3rd, and 5th innings. The Lakers would tack on 2 more runs in the top of the 6th inning to put the game out of reach. Cody Crawford singled and then stole second base. Crawford then scored on an Alves RBI-single. After a Zaluski walk, Crawford would then steal 3rd base. Crawford would come home on a Seth Cervello RBI-single. The game was not over though. Leading 8-4 heading into the bottom eof the 7th inniing, the Hawks scored 2 runs to close the gap to 8-6. The Hawks would then take advantage of a 2-out Laker error and walk to put runners on 2nd and 3rd base. Lenny Feckner was up to the challenge though as he struck out the final Hawks batter to seal the win. Cody Hejduk went 2-4 and had 4 RBI's. Rafael Nakandakari Alves and Kyle Zaluski each picked up 2 hits and an RBI. Seth Cervello added a hit and RBI. Dalton Vance and Stephen Osowki each collected a pair of hits while Cody Crawford added a hit in the Laker victory. Lenny Feckner pitched a complete game to earn the win. Feckner allowed 6 runs (4 earned) on 8 hits while striking out 7 Hawks.

In game 2, the Lakers were led by the bat of Dalton Vance in the win. Vance finished his day going 4-5 with 7 RBI's to help secure the win.  After spotting the Hawks an early 2-0 lead, the Lakers pushed their first run across in the top of the 2nd inning. Caden Gopalakrishna got things going with a single. Riley Wallace followed with a single before Stephen Osowski knocked Gopalakrishna in with an RBI-double. After shutting the Hawks down in the bottom of the 2nd inning, the Lakers would explode for 5 runs in the top of the 3rd inning. Rafael Nakandakari Alves and Kyle Zaluski would work back-to-back walks before Seth Cervello was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Gopalakrishna then worked an RBI walk to tie the score at 2. Dalton Vance then stepped to the plate and ripped a grand slam to give the Lakers a 6-2 lead. In the top of the 4th, the Lakers extended their lead to 9-2 by tacking on 3 more runs. Alves got things going with a single before Seth Cervello reached on an error. Alves scored on the error. After a Caden Gopalakrishna double, Vance would add 2 more RBI's on a single. In the top of the 5th inning, the Lakers added another run. Cody Crawford led off with a single before Cody Hejduk reached on a Hawk error. Alves then drew a walk and Kyle Zaluski knocked in Cody Crawford with a sac fly. The Hawks scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 5th inning to make the score 10-4 before the Lakers erupted for 9 runs in the top of the 6th inning. Vance would get things going hitting a leadoff single. Osowski would later reach on a Hawk error. Cody Crawford was then hit by a pitch to load the bases and Cody Hejduk followed with an RBI-single. Alves followed by working a RBI walk before Kyle Zaluski hit an RBI-single. Seth Cervello followed with an RBI sac fly and that was followed by a Gopalakrishna RBI-single. Vance then picked up his second hit of the inning, another RBI-single. Riley Wallace followed with a 2-run homer to close out the scoring for the Lakers. In addition to Vance's offensive outburst, the Lakers were led by Caden Gopalakrishna who went 3-4 with 2 RBI's and Kyle Zaluski who went 2-3 with 2 RBI's. Rafael Nakandakari Alves and Stephen Osowski both collected 2 hits and an RBI for the Lakers. Cody Hejduk had a hit and an RBI while both Cody Crawford and Riley Wallace collected 2 hits in the victory. Abe Bayus picked up the win pitching 4 innings and allowing 2 runs (1 earned) on 2 hits while striking out 4 batters. Zachary Sullivan relieved and pitched 2 innings allowing 3 earned runs.

Next Up: The Lakers are scheduled to host the Hocking Hawks on Monday in a 1:00 pm doubleheader at Laker Field.
