Baseball splits with Triceratops

The Lakeland baseball team traveled to Cuyahoga today to play the Triceratops in a doubleheader. The Lakers took game 1 by a final score of 4-3. Lakeland jumped out to an early lead to start the game. In the 1st inning, Alarik Sierra and Seth Cervello walked before Rafael Nakandakari reached on an error to load the bases. Jose Fichera followed with a 2-RBI double. Ray Cowen later hit an RBI-single to give the Lakers an early 3-0 lead. In the top of the 3rd inning, the Lakers would score the eventual game winning run. Seth Cervello doubled and then stole 3rd base. Cervello would later score on an RBI-single from Rafael Nakandakari. From there, the Lakers would surrender 3 runs in the bottom of the 6th inning before closing out the win. 

Jose Fichera finished 2-3 with a double and 2 RBI's while Ray Cowen added a hit and RBI for the Lakers. Seth Cervello (2B) and Julien Bourgeois each added a hit while Rafael Nakandakari picked up a hit and an RBI in the win. Stephen Osowski earned the victory pitching 5.1 innings and allowing 3 earned runs on 5 hits while striking out 2 batters. Jackson Smith picked up the save as he tossed 1.2 innings and allowed 1 hit while striking out 2 batters.

In the nightcap, the Lakers never got going and suffered an 11-0 defeat. Seth Cervello went 2-2 while Brayden Fellouzis (2B), Jose Fichera, and Andhris Martinez each picked up a hit. Logan Metz took the loss on the mound allowing 7 runs (3 earned) in 4 innings. Lucas Nichols relieved and pitched 1.1 innings allowing 4 runs (1 earned).

Next Up: The Lakers are scheduled to travel to Westmoreland County CC to play a doubleheader on Tuesday (4/2). First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
