Baseball splits with Commodorres

After a week of rainy weather, the baseball team was finally able to play today as they traveled to the Pipeyard to face off against the Lorain County Commodorres in OCCAC action. The Lakers jumped all over the Commodores in game one winning 10-0 before playing in a nailbiter in game 2 and dropping a tough 3-2 decision. In game 1, the Lakers got it going in the top of the 1st inning when Seth Cervello reached on an error. Estevan Ruiz singled and both advanced on a passed ball. Rafael Nakandakari then walked to load the bases before Jose Fichera walked to pick up an RBI as Cervello scored. Ibrahim Marrero then hit a sac fly to score Ruiz. In the top of the 2nd inning, Lakeland blew the game open scoring 4 unanswered runs. Ray Cowen started the inning with a single. Connor Wilt followed with an RBI-double. Alarik Sierra and Ruiz later followed with walks to load the bases. Wilt was then called out in a pickoff before Nakandakari walked to reload the bases. Sierra, Ruiz , and Nakandakari would all eventually score on wild pitches. The Lakers would tack another run in the 4th inning for a 7-0 lead. Estevan Ruiz singled and later stole second base. Jose Fichera would then single allowing Ruiz to advance to 3rd base. Ruiz would then score on an RBI-single from Ibrahim Marrero. Lakeland then finished out the scoring by plating 3 more runs in the top of the 7th inning. Seth Cervello started things with a 1-out double. Estevan Ruiz singled allowing Cervello to advance to 3rd base. Nakandakari then hit an RBI-single scoring Cervello.  Fichera singled to load the bases before Marrero followed with a 2-RBI single for the Lakers.

Jackson Smith improved to 2-0 on the season as he pitched a complete game shutout while striking out 14 batters. Ibrahim Marrero went 2-4 with 4 RBI's while Estevan Ruiz went 3-3 and scored 4 runs. Jose Fichera and Connor Wilt both collected 2 hits and an RBI while Alarik Sierra picked up 2 hits. Rafael Nakandakari chipped in a hit and RBI while Seth Cervello and Ray Cowen each chipped in a hit.

In game 2, Lorain jumped to a 3-0 lead taking advantage of 3 walks in the first inning. In the 3rd inning, the Lakers scored 2 runs to cut the deficit to 3-2. Brayden Fellouzis walked and advanced to second on a Julien Bourgeois single. Alarik Sierra reached on a fielder's choice that loaded the bases before Seth Cervello followed with an RBI-single. Rafael Nakandakari later hit an RBI-fielders choice allowing Bourgeois to score. The Lakers would put the tying run on in the 4th, 6th, and 7th innings but were unable to push the run across.

Stephen Osowski started on the mound but lasted just 2/3 of an inning while being responsible for all 3 runs. Seena Amani relieved and pitched 5.1 innings allowing no runs on 4 hits while striking out 5 batters. The Lakers finished with just 4 hits in game 2.

Next Up: The Lakers travel to Terra State on Tuesday (4/9) to face the Titans. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
