Lakeland's Ackema Royes represented the Lakers on Monday night (2/13) as he squared off against Iowa Western CC in FIFA 23. The Lakers won the best of three game 2-0. With the win, the Lakers record is now 1-0 this spring.
Game 1
The Lakers chose Paris Saint-Germain while the Reivers selected Liverpool. Lakeland received the opening possession and scored within the first two minutes of play. The Lakers then overloaded the midfield to cut the passing lanes which resulted in another quick score and a 2-0 Laker lead. Lakeland would score the third goal on a penalty kick. As the first half progressed, the Lakers continued to dominate the middle of the pitch with precise passing and dribbling near the box. Lakeland would score three more goals to take a 6-0 lead into halftime.
The second half saw defensive adjustments from Iowa Western as they played their back line up close the middle third which resulted in Lakeland being slowed with the offside trap. The Lakers would finally break through the new defensive formation scoring off a through ball in the 75th min. The Reivers would score two late goals as Lakeland closed out the decisive game one win, 7-2.
Game 2
Ackema Royes of the Lakers chooses Chelsea while Iowa Western selects Real Madrid. The Reivers had the ball to start and maintained control for the first couple of minutes. Lakeland would score their first goal when they inercepted a pass and took the ball down the field before scoring on a chip shot over the keeper. Lakeland would sustain the pressure and score successive goals on through passes down the middle of the field. The Lakers would end the half with a commanding 5-0 lead. In the second half, Lakeland scored a couple of more goals to coast to the victory. The goals were scored as Royes consistently tried to run the wing to a corner and and then score off crossing passes.
