Men's basketball downs Bobcats

The Lakeland men's basketball team traveled to Ursuline College to play Bryant & Stratton. The Lakers downed the Bobcats 85-77 to improve their record to 10-3 overall and 4-0 in conference play. The first half showed a contrasting style of play as the Lakers continually took the ball to the basket and had a high level of inside play while the Bobcats were content to shoot the three for much of the half. The style of play gave enabled the Lakers to have a 9-2 edge in free throws while the Bobcats held a lead in three's taken (15-8) giving the Bobcats a 38-35 edge at the break.

In the 2nd half, the Lakers trailed by 7 points until Jaidon Lipscomb sank a 3-pointer to cut the Bobcat lead to 58-54 with under 12 minutes to play. After a Bobcat turnover, Zach Wartley connected with a 3-pointer to trim the deficit to 1 at 58-57. After both teams missed shots, Landon Tillman made a layp to give the Lakers their first lead of the game at 59-58 with just over 10 minutes to play. On the Lakers next possession, Elhadji Thiam recorded his own offensive rebound and put-back to extend the Laker lead to 61-58. After the Bobcats sank 1-2 free throws, Zach Wartley connected on another 3-pointer to give the Lakers a 64-59 lead and control of the game. The Lakers would then close out the game in the comeback win.

The Lakers had a balanced attack as 4 players finished in double figures. Elhadji Thiam finished as the Lakers leading scorer with 22 points while adding 7 rebounds. Landon Tillman, Jaidon Lipscomb, and Zach Wartley each finished with 16 points for the Lakers while Jaden Woods added 8 points in the win.

Next Up: The Lakers will try to get healthier over the break before returning to action on January 7th at Erie Community College. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
