The Lakeland men's basketball team traveled to St. Clair County Community College to face off against the Marian University Ancilla College Chargers today in non-league action. Lakeland had an uneven first half before finding their legs and putting the game away with a strong second half as they finished with a 67-52 win. With the victory, the Lakers improved to 4-0. The Lakers jumped out to a 19-5 lead in the first 4 minutes of the game after a Nate Houston layup. Unfortunately for the Lakers, their play would get a bit sloppy as they had several turnovers and went cold shooting allowing the Chargers to actually to take the lead at 20-19 with a minute to play in the half. Alex Benson would then hit a jumper to give the Lakers the 21-20 advantage at the break. Houston would lead the Lakers with 7 points while Benson added 6 points to pace the Lakers in the first half.

In the second half, the Lakers would build their lead early and this time maintain it throughout the half. Both teams would miss shots before Brandon Lane hit a jumper on an assist from Adam Williams to give the Lakers a 23-20 lead a minute into the half. After an Alex Benson steal, Jareon Mayo would get fouled and drained both free throws for a 25-20 lead. After a Charger turnover, Mayo hit a jumper to grow the lead to 27-20 lead. After a Charger basket, Mayo would stick a 3-pointer for a 30-22 Laker lead. After a Charger miss, Benson made a layup for a 10 point Laker lead just 5 minutes into the half. From there, the Lakers would coast to the final victory.

Ten different Lakers scored in the win. Jareon Mayo led the Lakers offensively with 15 points and 6 rebounds. Alex Benson finished with 14 points, 4 steals, 3 assists, and 3 rebounds while Mark Wise added 8 points and 6 rebounds. Brandon Lane finished his night with 6 points and 9 rebounds while Nate Houston finished with 7 points and 2 rebounds. Bishop Thomas and Justin Covington both added 5 points and 3 rebounds in the Laker win.
